It is an agreed upon fact that 21st century is the century of information technology. It is the most turning point in human history.students are learming about the use of new machines and old machines are being updated. Students are being awarded with ned degrees of IT. These students are preferred everywhere for having IT certificates. It seems as IT is ruling in every part of society and progress of country is really depending upon it.
But the question arises what is this information technology? The word technology means knowledge or use of mechanical arts or applied science. In simple words technology is the application of science. According to Oxford Learner’s dictionary’it is the study and use of electronic processes and equipment to store and send information of all kinds including words, pictures and numbers. Chamber’s 21st century dictionary is more elaborate in defining this term: IT is the study, use or production of a range of technologies especially computer systems, digital electronics and telecommunications. It means the use of computers, internet, telephones, radios, telegraphs and fax machines come in this range. IT helps us in many fields of life. Every office worker is well aware how easy today data is communicated. In addition to entertainment, broad cast companies transmit information in the form of news and analysis on our radio and TV today. The print world, publishers of CD ROM titles or electronic magazines cannot be excluded from being the part of IT industry. Booksellers like Amazon. Com sell only over the internet. Online teaching, learning and testing have become common through this technology.
Pakistan is one of those countries that are trying to introduce this technology. The government is encouraging by extending loans to those companies that are interested in this field. It is also setting up its own IT centres in GOVT schools and colleges. Computer courses and education is being a compulsory part of syllabus. IT is necessary for us to have global collaboration with people and organizations.
